-- WINDOWS XP INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ------------------------------------

If upgrading drivers, uninstall older version using the "Configure USB
Virtual Serial Ports" utility located in the Start Menu under
Program Files\Sokkia. If this utility is not available, refer to the
CUSTOMER SERVICE section at the end of this document.

After connecting the USB port of the GPS receiver to a USB port
on the PC, the 'Found New Hardware' wizard appears. Note that on some
computers, this can take a very long time (30 minutes). When the
wizard appears, click 'Next'.

1. Select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' and
   click 'Next'.

2. Clear the "Search removable media" check box, select 'Include this
location in the search:' and Browse to the folder containing the
   ngpsusb.inf and ngpsser.inf install files.
   Click 'Next'.

Note: These drivers have not been certified by Microsoft's Windows
Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL). Depending on your computer's
Driver Signing Policy, Windows may refuse to install this
driver or may display a warning. See the section on
WINDOWS DRIVER SIGNING EXPLANATION for details.

3. Click 'Finish' to complete the driver installation.

After installing the GPS USB driver, Windows will detect each of the
receiver's three virtual COM ports (USB1, USB2, and USB3), and will begin
to initalize them. As each port is detected, the 'Found New Hardware' wizard
will appear. Complete the following steps for each port:

1. Select 'Install the software automatically (Recommended)' and
   click 'Next'.

2. Click 'Finish'

Installation is complete when no more dialogs appear. The new COM ports
corresponding to the receiver's USB1, USB2, and USB3 ports will be
numbered sequentially following the existing ports in the PC, and are
ready to use with any existing application that communicates with the
receiver's COM ports.

Note: The assignment of COM port numbers is tied to the USB port on the
PC. This allows you to switch receivers without Windows assigning
new COM ports. However, if you connect the receiver to a different
USB port, Windows will detect the receiver's presence on that USB
port and assign three new COM port numbers.

-- WINDOWS 2000 INSTALLATION -----------------------------------------------

If upgrading drivers, uninstall the older version using the "Configure USB
Virtual Serial Ports" utility located in the Start Menu under
Program Files\Sokkia. If this utility is not available, refer to the
CUSTOMER SERVICE section at the end of this document.

After connecting the USB port of the GPS receiver to a USB port
on the PC, the 'Found New Hardware' wizard appears. Click 'Next'.

1. Select 'Search for a suitable driver for my device' and click 'Next'.

2. Select 'Specify a location' and click 'Next'.

3. Use the browse button to specify the folder containing the ngpsusb.inf
   and ngpsser.inf install files.

4. Confirm that the driver found is ngpsusb.inf and click 'Next'.

5. Click 'Finish' to complete the driver installation.

After installing the GPS USB driver, Windows will detect each of the
receiver's three virtual COM ports (USB1, USB2, and USB3), and will begin
to initalize them. Installation is complete when no more dialogs appear.

The new COM ports corresponding to the receiver's USB1, USB2, and USB3 ports
will be numbered sequentially following the existing ports in the PC, and
are ready to use with any existing application that communicates with the
receiver's serial COM ports.

-- WINDOWS DRIVER SIGNING EXPLANATION --------------------------------------

Depending on how your administrator has configured your computer,
Windows 2000 and WINDOWS XP either ignore device drivers that are not
digitally signed, display a warning when they detect device drivers that
are not digitally signed (the default), or prevent you from installing
device drivers without digital signatures.

Since the current version of GPS USB drivers are not digitally signed,
the computer's policy must be either Ignore or Warn to enable the drivers
to be installed.

To change the Driver Signing Policy on your computer:
1. Double-click on System in the Control Panel.
2. Click the Hardware tab
3. Click the Driver Signing button
4. Click either Ignore or Warn in the File signature verification box.
5. Click 'OK' to accept the new policy
6. Click 'OK' to close the System Properties dialog.

Unplug the GPS Receiver USB cable, plug it back in and follow
the installation instructions described above.
